Linear Law,Just 1 Strategy Makes A Grade Difference

What is Linear Law?

It is a tool which will allow you to transform non-straight line equation to straight line equation so that you can plot a straight line. Most of the time, the axis will consist of x and/or y

One of the techniques involving taking lg (log base 10) on both sides of the given equation.

Common Mistake! STOP
y=Ax^b=>lgy=blgAx=>blgA+blgx

This is one of the common mistakes I have highlighted in Top 7 Commonly Made Mistakes in Logarithm

How To Counter This Mistake

Very simple. Just add in a bracket on the right hand side of the equation.
y=(Ax^b)<br>  =>lgy=lg(Ax^b)<br>  => lgy=lgA+lgx^b<br>  => lgy=lgA+blgx<br>

Now, your y-axis will be lg y and x-axis will be lg x. Gradient = b and y-intercept = lg A

Logarithm Equation Question 3

This is an interesting question which I came across under Additional Mathematics (A-Math):

Find the value of x.

(log_x \sqrt{3})(log_x\sqrt{8})= \frac{3}{2}log_x\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}

Who is courageous to work on this question?

I will respond to this question when someone discusses about this question first :)

Update:

(log_x \sqrt{3})(log_x\sqrt{8})= \frac{3}{2}log_x\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}

(Apply Power Law)

(log_x \sqrt{3})(log_x\sqrt{8})= \frac{3}{2}log_x\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}

(log_x \sqrt{3})(log_x\sqrt{8})= \frac{3}{2}log_x\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}

(multiply by 4 on both sides of equal sign)

(log_x \sqrt{3})(log_x\sqrt{8})= \frac{3}{2}log_x\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}

(Apply Power Law)
(log_x \sqrt{3})(log_x\sqrt{8})= \frac{3}{2}log_x\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}

(log_x \sqrt{3})(log_x\sqrt{8})= \frac{3}{2}log_x\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}

(Apply Quotient Law)
(log_x \sqrt{3})(log_x\sqrt{8})= \frac{3}{2}log_x\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}
(log_x \sqrt{3})(log_x\sqrt{8})= \frac{3}{2}log_x\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}

(Factorise)

(log_x \sqrt{3})(log_x\sqrt{8})= \frac{3}{2}log_x\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}

(log_x8)=0 (NA)or log_x3+1=0

log_x3=-1,3=x^-^1,3=\frac {1}{x},3x=1,x= \frac {1}{3}

F-r-e-e GCE O Level Mathematics Exam Questions Papers For Download?Just Buy A Copy In BookStores

I thought  I should say a little more with relation to the earlier article I wrote on How To Create Math PowerNotes For Revision of Tests & Exams

Now, you can easily get access to Cambridge GCE O Level Elementary or Additional Maths exam questions .

For those in Singapore, just head towards any of the major bookstore to get a copy. A copy is usually less than $10. And you can use it for Sec 3 & 4 ( otherwise known as Grade 9 or 10). Buy a copy here.

Yes. It is compulsory to finish the what we called it the Ten Years Series as it consists of usually 10 years of exam questions. Some students do it several times again and again too.

If you find that you have totally done and understood everything in the Ten Years Series. You may get other schools exam papers to work on which are definitely more exciting and thus burnt more calories in the process. ;)

Personally, I suggest you to just get a copy of the Ten Years Series and Get Into Action Consistently!  GCE O-Level questions are not available for free due to copyright of Cambridge.

All the best!

Binomial Expansion Teaches how to choose the RIGHT partner (:

I always like to share with my students what each Math topic has to do with their everyday life, particularly their future.

Yesterday, I did Binomial Expansion. It's about finding the RIGHT partner (: It's about mastering the skills of finding the correct match based on a set of factors.

binoqn1.PNG
Just like this question, you see that there are 2 brackets. 1st bracket is good for now. 2nd bracket needs us to do some expansion work by using the FORMULAE (It's provided during GCE O Level Exams but some schools don't seem to provide it for their mid year, strange)
Oh yar, there is NO need to remember the Binomial Expansion Formulae!
binoformulae.PNG
Then one of the questions that often pop up is " When do we stop our expansion for [TEX](1+\frac {x}{3})^{12}[/TEX]?"

To answer this question, it depends on what type of partners you are looking for.
