Meet the Parents Session on the Last Day of School

I was jogging past a secondary school near my place when I see students holding THE book. Some were with parents, some alone.

I never had this experience. We didn't have Meet the Parents sessions back in my school days.

To my parents, it isn't a good thing for them to go to my school.

Things have changed.

Every term or half a year, parents would be invited to schools to hear feedback and perhaps compliments about their children performance.

Looking at the expression on the child face, it must be a strange experience to have your parents go to school with you. Everyone wasn't in their own self, chatting merrily with friends, walking without a care for the world . . . Everybody looks serious. Really serious.

How was your experience on this last day of school?

Was it a good one or a bad one? I would love to hear your experience in the comments section.

For the Secondary 4, are you ready for O levels? If your answer is no, click here.

Relationship between Music and Mathematics ?

I was at National Library (Singapore) website to renew my books when I chanced upon this blog post on "What is the relationship between classical music and mathematics?"

I find it to be rather interesting as never have it crossed my mind that Music and Mathematics could share something common (despite the fact that I have been 'living' with Mathematics for the most part of my life). The 1st thing that comes to my mind was: Music is full of notes & emotion while Mathematics is full of equations, logic and steps by steps. Totally different!

I read the article and find that there indeed lurks some 'complex' relationship between Music and Mathematics. To further prove my shock, I Google on this question 'is there a link between music and mathematics?' There are almost 7 million results out of this search! with many indicating some links between Music and Mathematics!

I caught a main keyword amidst all the different articles on the similarity that both subject share: PATTERNS.

The music and math connection works both ways: it's common for children who do well in math class to be extremely successful when it comes to playing an instrument and reading musical notes. The combination of both these skills will often lead to better overall performance in school.

From The Link Between Music and Math

Well it does not seem to apply to me. I am good in solving and coaching Mathematics :-) (Getting better and better as time goes by) but I was never good in my piano!

Though there are many studies which have confirmed the relationship of Music and Math to share some similarities to a certain extent, what are your thoughts on this question?

Dessert: Be Thankful For What You Have

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: 'I am blind, please help.' There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, 'Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?'

The man said, 'I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.'
What he had written was: 'Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.'

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?

Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have . Be creative . Be innovative . Think differently and positively .

Invite others towards good with wisdom . Live life with no excuse and love with no regrets . When life gives you a 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1000 reasons to smile . Face your past without regret . Handle your present with confidence . Prepare for the future without fear . Keep the faith and drop the fear .

Great men say, 'Life has to be an incessant process of repair and reconstruction, of discarding evil and developing goodness . In the journey of life, if you want to travel without fear, you must have the ticket of a good conscience . '

The most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling!!
And even more beautiful is, knowing that you are the reason behind it!

Update:GCE O Level A-Maths Topical Intensive Revision Programme

To All Parents & Students Who Contacted Me with the enquiries on the GCE O Level A-Maths Intensive Programme, I have to apologise sincerely as recently I have some major changes in my personal schedule which does not permit me to commit 100% for this June holidays. I have lost a large part of my contacts on my mobile phone due to the servicing of the handset so I was not able to personally notify all students and parents. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. For students who desperately need help in A-Maths still, I am looking into the possibility of conducting the same programme on every Sundays of July onwards.

Thank you for your interest.
