A-Maths: Proper vs. Improper Fraction Video (Link to Partial Fraction)

O-Level Maths TuitionDirect link to video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXVsSHlDVqw

  • How to tell if a fraction is Proper or Improper?
  • What's size of head and body doing in this video?
  • What is degree of a polynomial expression?
  • What's the link to partial fraction?

I would love to hear from you on the answers.

In the next video, I will share with you how to convert an improper fraction to proper fraction.

Intake for Secondary 3 Additional Mathematics Coaching Programme

O Level Maths Tuition

Additional Mathematics is a subject which explores in depth abstract concepts and is highly application-based. It definitely demands more from students than Elementary Mathematics.

Based on my years of experience, many Secondary 3 students lose interest and confidence in A-Maths in the first 6 months when they are not able to catch up with their learning.

If you find yourself falling into this stage even 2 months in A-Maths, I would like to invite you to join my Secondary 3 A-Maths tuition class starting on 20 Feb 2011 (Sunday), 2 - 4pm.

Lesson is taught in a topical basis, with analogies drawn from everyday life examples to make learning easier and more enjoyable for students.

The following topics will be discussed for the year:

  • Surds
  • Indices
  • Exponential Function
  • Logarithms
  • Quadratic Equations
  • Partial Fractions
  • Factor - Remainder Theorem
  • Modulus Function
  • Coordinate Geometry
  • Linear Law
  • Trigonometry

P.S: Secondary 3 Elementary Maths class is available on Saturdays, 9 -11am.

Ai Ling has taught me the formulas for Maths in an easier way. She also showed me different techniques that can be applied to the Maths question and how to look out for certain things in questions, to be able to apply the formulas learn. That has made it easier for me to do questions and I can now do the questions with much ease. Thank you, Annabelle, CHIJ - Toa Payoh

This programme has been very helpful to me for my Maths. Through this programme, I have fully understand certain topics that I was unsure of, for example Trigonometry. This has helped my A-Maths improve greatly and I passed my CA2 A-Maths. It was the first time I passed in this year! Also, I find Ai Ling very interactive and engaging , easy to understand what she's saying. This has helped me alot and I will continue with this programme. Gabriel, Maris Stella High School

A-Math: How to Sketch Modulus Graph [video]

Modulus Graph Sketching_Page_01

This morning, I received an email from a student on asking how to draw a modulus graph with and without boundary condition.

What is boundary condition?
It is usually the range of values of x (otherwise known as domain) for the graph.

Though I have written a similar post in 2009 here, I feel that a video will show you clearly the step by step and important points to consider. Note that my drawing isn't perfect, afterall it's a freehand draw on my tablet, so you got to bear with my 'not so straight' lines :)

The video is about 7 minutes long. Around 6min 30s, I've included a bonus question to challenge yourself. Go ahead and answer it on the comment section.

Coordinate Geometry Mindmap

For today, I decided to have some fun with the online mindmap software - MindMeister to create the summary for coordinate geometry topic for Secondary 3 and 4 students.

It's a simple mindmap which includes almost all if not everything on Coordinate Geometry.

Do let me know if there's anything I've left out.

Feel free to save the image on your desktop too.

A-Math: How to Integrate Trigonometry with Square Power [video]

IntegrationTrigo_Page_2Some students get really confused between differentiation and integration of Trigonometry. In fact, I personally feel that integration of Trigonometry is easier as there are only 3 general formulas (as shown). In this video, I've shown the thinking process, step by step approach on how to integrate Trigonometry with square power, an advanced concept.  Hope you find the approach and explanation useful.

I would love to hear your comments.

A-Math: Binomial Theorem Checklist

checklist-amLast lesson, I recapped with my students the essence of Binomial Theorem in A-Math and upon searching my website, I found that I have written quite a number of posts on this topic.

I'm going to list down the points you need to know before you go for your exams.

Do you know

  • How to use the Binomial formula provided on the formula sheet?  (term by term expansion, (r+1)th general term, factorial formula)
  • What's term independent of x?
  • Which term to use in a double bracket expansion?
  • How to apply Binomial concepts in evaluating values?

Binomial theorem is closely linked to Indices and every year, there is always one question worth 5 - 7 marks in 'O' Levels.

Hope you find this post beneficial and I would love to hear your comments on Binomial theorem. Do you like this topic or you don't? Leave me a comment.
