<img style="vertical-align: -2pt" title="\sqrt{a}" src="http://www.forkosh.dreamhost.com/mathtex.cgi?\sqrt{a}" alt="\sqrt{a}" /> is read as Square Root which means the &#8220;default&#8221; number outside the square root sign is 2 NOT 1 which a couple of students have thought about.</p>
