I was in Popular bookstore to get some stationery a few days ago and it suddenly dawned on me a brand new year is coming soon.

I saw the stacks of textbooks for Primary school to Secondary school piling up in the store.

It’s always an exciting transition period for many students, starting their year in a new environment with new friends, teachers and more responsibilities.

There are also another group of students who will be preparing their major examinations like PSLE and GCE O-Level and GCE A-Level.

During this school holiday, to help students who haven’t fully grasped their Secondary 3 concepts in Elementary & Additional Mathematics. I’m conducting 3 revision workshops:

E-Maths Circles (angle properties, arc length, area of sector, cone & sector): 21 Nov 2011, 9am – 1pm

E-Maths Trigonometry (Trigonometrical ratio, sin rule, cosine rule, area of triangle, angle of depression & elevation, problem solving, 3D problems): 22 Nov 2011, 9am – 1pm

A-Maths Trigonometry (Simplification I & II, Graphs, Proving Identity I & II, Trigonometry Equations I & II, R-formula): 7 – 9 Dec 2011, 2pm – 6pm

All these workshops are suitable for Secondary 3 students this year and it involves teaching and hands-on practice in a step-by-step manner, structured to increase your understanding and confidence upon completion.

Additional Mathematics is a subject which explores in depth abstract concepts and is highly application-based. It definitely demands more from students than Elementary Mathematics.

Based on my years of experience, many Secondary 3 students lose interest and confidence in A-Maths in the first 6 months when they are not able to catch up with their learning.

If you find yourself falling into this stage even 2 months in A-Maths, I would like to invite you to join my Secondary 3 A-Maths class starting on 20 Feb 2011 (Sunday), 2 – 4pm.

Lesson is taught in a topical basis, with analogies drawn from everyday life examples to make learning easier and more enjoyable for students.

The following topics will be discussed for the year:

Surds

Indices

Exponential Function

Logarithms

Quadratic Equations

Partial Fractions

Factor – Remainder Theorem

Modulus Function

Coordinate Geometry

Linear Law

Trigonometry

For fees structure and registration, click here.

P.S: Secondary 3 Elementary Maths class is available on Saturdays, 9 -11am.

Ai Ling has taught me the formulas for Maths in an easier way. She also showed me different techniques that can be applied to the Maths question and how to look out for certain things in questions, to be able to apply the formulas learn. That has made it easier for me to do questions and I can now do the questions with much ease. Thank you, Annabelle, CHIJ – Toa Payoh

This programme has been very helpful to me for my Maths. Through this programme, I have fully understand certain topics that I was unsure of, for example Trigonometry. This has helped my A-Maths improve greatly and I passed my CA2 A-Maths. It was the first time I passed in this year! Also, I find Ai Ling very interactive and engaging , easy to understand what she’s saying. This has helped me alot and I will continue with this programme. Gabriel, Maris Stella High School

Recently, Sean – the colleague at SimpleChemConcepts.com showed me an interesting email his student sent him.

Out of the many updates this student shared was to ‘Start Preparation Early!’ He just completed his GCE ‘O’ Level examinations last month. He wrote to Sean to share his suggestion with all our students. From his experience, he felt that his Sec 4 passed too fast, with time spent on CCAs (he was a student leader) and completion of syllabus. By then, it was just 3 months left to ‘O’ Levels.

As I always talk to students and parents, ‘O’ Levels consist of the examination of the entire Sec 1 to Sec 4 (or 5) work. This is especially true for Elementary Mathematics. For Additional Mathematics, students are required to be good with 2 years of knowledge.

To Sec 4 2011 A-Maths students: please learn your Differentiation & Integration well! These are the highlights for you.

If you are willing to take this student advice seriously of ‘Start Preparation Early!’, I would like to invite you to join me starting in mid-Jan 2011 in my Ultimate Leap Programme – Weekly Coaching Classes. Click here to read more.

Here are the topics discussed for Sec 3 and Sec 4(or 5) and do note that the sequence is subjected to changes.

I look forward in meeting some of you and Happy 2011! Oh, did I mention that I’ve something for all of you next year. *wink wink* Subscribe to the blog to be updated later in January!
